HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED…

how times have changed………..

I look around and nothing is the same 

And not in the aspect of walking through your house and finding a new stain

 It's in the world itself, is what I actually mean 

We went from fighting to sitting next to each other on the train 

To doing anything under the sun just to be seen 

And from kids running and playing 

To talking about sex and being obscene 

I look around the world and see nothing is the same 

I'm just waiting for the day I look up and realize this has all just been on the big screen

You ever hear the phrase “back in my day”? I’ve been thinking about that lately as I’m getting older and it starts to fit me and my surroundings. I look to my left and my right and so much is vastly different from when I was a child. Not just socially or in the media but in people and children themselves. And I feel like the trajectory of our society isn’t heading n the most positive directions, if you really look at your surroundings.

Everywhere you look the world has done a total 180, kids are no longer playing in the dirt and getting stung by bees. Parents are barely parents, they are kids that had kids. Women went from fighting to vote to fighting to get likes. Men went from fighting wars and carrying households on their backs, to straight laying on them with their hands out. There was a time that the struggle made you strong and foul words produced thick skin. Three was a time that you had to learn that the world is unfair and rough, now we shelter everyone from the smallest words that would have never been a wound. We do it so much that when anyone gets a scratch they think their arm just got cut off.

Even relationships and friendships have done a complete flip flop, we went from ’till death do us part’ to ‘I love you until I don’t’… And friendships used to be created from nothing and lived for generations, to ‘I need you and you need me but I don’t even know your name’. Communication between these pairs went from no secrets and codded languages, to whispers behind backs and no transparency. What happened to this beautiful world we live in? Our ancestors fought to build and create a strong world only for the youth to destroy it with privileges, lies, and lack of strength and empathy.
